# Simple steps to promoting your live shows (and band)

As an artist, you work hard crafting your music, and you want to share it with as many fans as possible. Here's how to do reduce friction and encourage engagement with your work.

For many, social media has become the primary—or the only—place for communicating with your audience. It's convenient, easy, and fast—but this approach gives away your power to platforms that have repeatedly demonstrated their contempt for their users, fair play, and democracy.

As much as we dislike them, however, engaging with these platform may still be a necessity for artists. However, if you want to engage more people with as little friction as possible, consider these basic guidelines for promotion.

## Create a simple website

In 2026 and beyond, this is easier than ever. Get a domain name (*mybandnameherePDX.com* is fine) and create a simple site, even just a single page, with the basics: About, Shows, Listen. That's it, that's all you need. It's yours. You control how it looks, what appears there. It's exactly what you want to share, and nothing else.

## Post your music on socials, but setup a Bandcamp page too

While Bandcamp looks outdated and has limited functionality (it's not really a streaming platform), it is the very easiest way to share your music. Each album and song have their own URL. It's ungated, no login required, so if you release new music, you can point fans there and they can hear it immediately, without the clutter or distraction of social media, with the ads and junk served up by Spotify. You can also embed a Bandcamp music player directly on your own website.

Look how simple it is to embed a track above. You can listen to it now, and you don't have to go anywhere.

## Show promotion - give details and always include a link to your music

In Portland, on most nights of the week there are a lot of shows competing for fans' attention. When you post your show on Instagram, Reddit, or wherever, give the **who, what, where, when** right away, and follow that with a link to the **Listen** page of your website, or to your Bandcamp. Don't send people to social media, it's a distraction machine that shows what the platforms want you to see, not what you want to see. Like this.
