This
Athens, Georgia, USA band creates an original fusion of Western
rhythms and Asian instruments. Macha (which means "fun"
in Hindi) create a remarkably coherent, melodic sound. Genre
mixing often has uninspiring results, but Macha's talent and pan-cultural
influences yield a soulful and intriguing tone. Western
Influences would seem to include Japan
and perhaps The Cure.
The group is also compared to Apples in Stereo, Olivia
Tremor Control and Stereolab.
In
early summer I saw the band in a short outdoor show at The University
of Wisconsin-Madison Union Terrace as they opened for Dirty Three.
Despite equipment troubles and the difficulties of an outdoor mix,
they played a great show to the mellow Madison crowd. When Macha
tours, the info should be here.
Of course, make sure to call the venue to confirm any show you wish
to attend.
Recently
Macha collaborated on a six-song album with members of the now-defunct
Bedhead. Read
a review.
You
