One
of Israel's most popular bands, Mashina's uniqueness comes from
their distinct fusion of reggae with Middle-Eastern melodies.
Their early albums reflect this adventurous combination, while their
later work leans toward a less original rock sound. I have
yet to hear a band mimic their unique combination of genres.
Some
time ago, Mashina gave a farewell concert, but they're not necessarily
gone for good. Mashina is on the CBS/NMC label in Israel.
Much of their music is available in the U.S.A from New York-based
KOL-AMI: 1-800-393-4264 (ask for a catalog.) The group is
not to be confused with a group or music phenomenon in the former
Soviet Union.
